Language: Class rocked today. Class has been rocking pretty hard ever since I was rolled back but today was especially fun. Yesterday I had mentioned wanting to move my seat to my class leader because I was stuck between the loud goofballs in my class while the quiet, studious people were on the other side of the room. Today another classmate must have annoyed my class leader for the last time because he switched our seats. Doing group work with him is pretty intense but fun and I think I rose to the occasion. We were bouncing back sentences to each other with the new grammar pattern and I actually found myself explaining a few things to him. This is a huge improvement over knowing nothing and suffering through every moment of every day.
Tonight's homework consisted of five sentences apiece for each of the three new grammar patterns. Then I finished creating the flashcards for all the bonus words the teachers gave me and reviewed all of the next chapter's vocab. Pretty light stuff but I'm learning more and more words. I found my Rosetta Stone CD while cleaning today so now I have that to help me study too. I think the voice recognition software will be useful for pronunciation as mine sucks.
Marathon: Today the Momrine and I were supposed to run a 3mi but her charge (the baby) is sick. She's a tough little baby but the pukes at daycare are not. So the Momrine was called home to watch her little one and, without a sitter, we had to do individual training. I went for a 30 minute run on post from my barracks to the hilltop field, ran around the track, ran down to the PFC, ran around the track, ran back to the hilltop field, ran around the track, then ran back to my barracks. It was a nice, easy pace and I ran for 9 minutes then walked for 1 like I will in the marathon. My new shoes felt really good compared to my old running shoes (which were a whole size too small) but I still need to break them in. More importantly, today I upheld my commitment to start training despite the lack of a partner. As long as I keep my motivation and dedication high, I'll do this. It felt good to boot. I think that is because I was properly rested, hydrated, and fed.
Combat: I like to think that everything happens for a reason. Some people may think it's nonsense but, besides my thinking it's true, it makes me really thankful for the little things in life. Like today. I could have been all bummed out that the Momrine and I didn't run together but because I was running solo on post I came across my Marine Corps Martial Arts Program instructor testing out some Marines. I thought he had already left the post so imagine my surprise when I found out he would be here until March. Now I have the opportunity to get my MCMAP grey belt. Time to dig up the syllabuses and remediate...
Personal: Today I spent a chunk of time cleaning up my room by going through my bins and drawers and getting rid of stuff. I also found a lot of stuff too. Once I did that I had room to store the other stuff a lot better so my room is less of a wreck. It's still a bit of a mess but it is getting better. I can't wait to get this done so that I can devote these energies to some other goal.
Gaming: I found a bunch of games and CDs while cleaning and proceeded to install a few games and rip the CDs. Then I played some Baldur's Gate. Right now I am mopping up the gnoll stronghold before heading back out to scour the countryside for evil. Mmmm... Thank you GameTap.
